The Life of a Teacher

The life of a teacher can be tiring and difficult at times. This week was extremely hard. There were meetings to go to, student drama, grading, and everything else. Some the lessons don't completely hold their attention. I think it is because most of education has nothing to do with everyday life. Knowing algebra isn't gonna keep you safe on the streets on your way home from school. If someone is gonna jack you, it just isn't gonna help. So, what is the solution?

Yes, 'knowing algebra' does keep you safe, 'cause it teaches you the discipline of thinking and solving problems.
As teachers it's our responsibility to connect the classroom to reality; As I tell my students, the ultimate goal of this math class is for you to be the PLAYER, and not get PLAYED.

adinasi, I agree with you and feel you on that comment, I only mean to say that what we teach could be so much more connected to reality. Thank you for the comment, and giving another point of view.
